What does ADHD feel like?

Having ADHD can feel very lonely and overwhelming. People with ADHD often feel overwhelmed and anxious over the amount of commitments they take on at any one time. They can also get down on themselves because they see others seamlessly carrying out functions that feel so difficult for them to complete. This can lead to increased symptoms of:

  • Anxiety

  • Depression

  • Suicidality

  • Strained relationships

What is Adult ADHD?

Did you know that Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is a behavioral health condition that affects approximately 4% of adults?

ADHD is marked by an ongoing pattern of inattention and/or hyperactivity so much that they interfere with normal everyday functioning.

For people with ADHD, Symptoms begin in childhood and they experience an ongoing pattern of the following types of symptoms:

  • Inattention: difficulty staying on task, sustaining focus, and staying organized.

  • Hyperactivity: moving about constantly (including situations where is may not be appropriate), excessive fidgeting, tapping, and/or talking. For adults, hyperactivity may present as extreme restlessness or excessive talking.

  • Impulsivity: This means acting without thinking, or experiencing difficulty with self-control. It can also present as a desire for immediate reward or the inability to delay gratification. Impulsiveness may also present as frequently interrupting others or making important decisions without considering long-term consequences.

Adults with ADHD can experience a variety of the above behaviors with varying severity. For people with ADHD, these symptoms occur more frequently, are more severe, and interfere with functioning in multiple settings (school, work, home life, relationships and friendships).
